This presentation engages the audience in a conversation about human rights. The focus includes citizenship values, equality, discrimination, freedom and participation. It highlights several rights, including: the right to associate and form trade unions, form political parties, freedom of speech and expression, vote and equal access to government employment. It also highlights the duties of citizenship and includes a discussion of incorporating the rights of citizens in Yemeni legislation.
This curriculum focuses on school journalism in socialization and enhancing democratic awareness. The first of five sections explains the concept of school journalism and its role in enhancing democracy. Additional sections focus on the four dimensions of school journalism: media, administrative, educational and artistic. Examples are provided for each dimension, and proposed models of radio broadcasting in schools are presented.
This course provides a model for critical reading of the media and is targeted to students of secondary schools on the representation of the Arab minority in Israeli media. It includes a manual for secondary school instructors called "Communicating Peace," which suggests criteria for evaluating news coverage and includes modules for teaching about problematic news coverage of Jewish-Arab relations in the major Hebrew-language Israeli press.
