Within the project of “Encouraging Marginalized Voices in the Lebanese Political Process” funded by MEPI- NEA/AC, ACRLI has published a new legal assessment report “Women’s Participation in Public Life” which tackles the question of women’s participation in public life from a legal perspective and examines the constraints imposed on them and the diminutive effects those constraints have on women’s participation. Capacity Building for Law Enforcement Personnel on Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Response |
IWSAW launched project that focused on building the capacity of law enforcement personnel to identify, prevent and respond appropriately to gender-based violence (GBV), and to increase gender awareness and equality within the security sector itself.
The full program entailed in-depth training for female and male Lebanese security personnel on:
Integrating gender perspectives into the provision of security service;
Increasing women’s representation and participation in the security sector, international and national legal frameworks, policies, and procedures in cases of GBV;
Overcoming challenges to gender equality and GBV prevention and response in the Lebanese context.

حماية القاصرات من الزواج المبكر: الواقع والمرتجى |
إن كثرة حالات الزيجات المبكرة للقاصرات التي شهدها المجتمع اللبناني في الآونة الأخيرة ولا يزال هو ما استرعى إنتباه رجال القانون ووسائل الإعلام وهيئات المجتمع المدني ودفعها إلى طرح المشكلة على طاولة البحث، تصديًا لها وحرصًا على تفاديها. ولعلّ أبرز مسبِّبات الزواج المبكر للقاصرات يكمن في الجانب الإقتصادي والإجتماعي اللذين تحكمهما عوامل عدة: كالفقر المدقع والعوز وغياب التوعية والتأهيل الثقافي والصحي والإجتماعي لدى أهل القاصرة كما لدى القاصرة نفسها ضحيّة الزواج المبكر، وكضعف التعلّم لا بل انعدامه خصوصًا في الأوساط القروية، وكتعرّض الفتاة للإغتصاب - لا سيّما في ضوء ما يشهده لبنان حاليًا من نزوح أجنبي إلى أراضيه.
هذه الدراسة القانونية هي ثمرة التعاون بين الهيئة الوطنية لشؤون المرأة اللبنانية ومعهد الدراسات النسائية في العالم العربي في الجامعة اللبنانية الأميركية في إطار الحملة الوطنية لحماية القاصرات من الزواج المبكر في لبنان.

Living with the Shadows of the Past |
This report examines the impact on women of enforced disappearances committed during Lebanon’s civil war, focusing in particular on the effects on wives of the missing or disappeared—and their children. The research is based on interviews conducted by ICTJ with 23 wives of missing or disappeared persons of varying backgrounds. The women described the continuing legal, social, financial, and psychological hardship they face, because the state has provided inadequate redress to family members as direct victims. Drawing on comparative global experiences, it makes recommendations for how enforced disappearance should be addressed by Lebanese policy makers and civil society.

تألف الدليل للعمل داخل سجون النساء في لبنان من قسمين. القسم الأوّل يتضمّن معلومات حول الآليات والاتفاقات الدولية التي تتعلّق بحقوق السجينات، القوانين الجزائية وكيفية تطبيقها في لبنان، قانون تنظيم السجون اللبناني (المرسوم رقم١٤٣١٠)، واقع السجون والسجينات والجريمة في البلدان العربية؛ بالإضافة إلى نتائج المسحين الذين أجراهما معهد الدراسات النسائية في العالم العربي في الجامعة اللبنانية الأميركية عامي ١٩٩٩ و٢٠١٠ من أجل تسليط الضوء على ظروف السجينات في سجون النساء الأربع في لبنان (بربر الخازن، بعبدا، طرابلس، وزحلة) وواقع الجرائم بين النساء في لبنان.
القسم الثاني من الدليل يحتوي على إرشادات عملية من أجل ضمان نجاح المشاريع التي تقام في سجون النساء في لبنان، ولا سيما: مراحل التحضير لتنفيذ مشروع داخل سجن للنساء، أفضل الممارسات لتلبية احتياجات السجينات الاجتماعية والصحية والنفسية والقانونية، بالإضافة إلى توجيهات للوصول إلى أفضل نتائج عند القيام بمشاريع أو تنفيذ برامج تهدف إلى تعليم السجينات مهارات مدرة للدخل أو تطويرها، و تمكين السجينات من الإنخراط في المجتمع عند تبرءتهن أو انتهاء فترة الحكم.
يتوجّه الدليل بقسميه إلى عدّة أفرقاء، لا سيّما: المجتمع المدني المحلي (ولا سيما المرشدات الإجتماعيات) والهيئات الدولية، المهتمون بشؤون السجون في لبنان، المؤسسات الدينية، الجهات المسؤولة عن إدارة السجون، صانعو القرارات المتعلّقة بالسجون، والباحثون المهتمون بواقع الأشخاص المسلوبة حرّيتهم وواقع السجون في البلدان العربية

Country Gender Profiles |
A country gender profile provides a background on the gender equality situation in a particular country. The specific objectives are to present data and provide a gender analysis of national policies, key sectors, legal frameworks, institutions and the assessment of progress made in the promotion of gender equality and empowerment of women.
The profile will entail a brief description of the history, demographics, national policies, human rights, socio-economic and political situation per country for each of the 22 Arab countries. The CGPs share statistics and information on gender issues across a variety of sectors in each Arab country, providing an unbiased source of information for readers. The CGPs are a platform from which researchers, students, activists, and others can begin their work based on reliable information – vetted by gender specialists from each country. Finally, the CGPs are meant to be living documents, updated with new information as statistics change and more studies are done. We are not creating something new, but rather compiling the information to make it useful and easily accessible to a wider audience.
The aim is to present a brief overview which can be used to develop gender programming or reporting - and stimulate discussion and further research.

Awareness Guide for Female Domestic Workers in Lebanon: What should I know? |
With a grant from the Foundation of Open Society Institute, IWSAW developed and printed the brochure for the campaign. The brochure was written in English to address migrant workers from the Philippines, and immediately translated into three languages, Amharic (Ethiopia), Nepali (Nepal), and Sinhala (Sri Lanka). A total of 24,000 brochures were printed.
Update: We are currently working on updating this guide for the year 2016. In addition, we are working on producing an awareness guide for Lebanese families wishing to hire a domestic worker. These guides will provide information and guidance to both domestic workers and their employers, keeping them aware about their responsibilities both to themselves and to one another.

The report addresses the monitoring of developments that have affected human rights aspects in Yemen for this year, based on field monitoring operations for human rights violations in Yemen in general , through direct field monitoring mechanisms for the period from January 1 to December 31, 2019, through a network of field monitors , Lawyers, activists and media professionals in all Yemeni governorates . In addition to the office monitoring and documentation work team . In addition , the forum undertake the process of desk monitoring, documentation, advocacy and defending human rights issues by various means, including providing the report with complete and required information and data through the framework adescribed and explained in the chapters of the report, which is important because of the information that it provides, as it is an essential reference for analyzing the whole situation for the current year.

Soft Skills for Youth Employment in Algeria Qualitative Research Report |
The Youth Employment Project (YEP), funded by the U.S. State Department’s Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) and implemented by World Learning in partnership with nine Algerian technical and vocational institutes, presents a response to this question that is relevant for all education and training providers as well as governmental and non-governmental promoters of youth in Algeria and the region.
Bringing together qualitative evidence from 90 employed and unemployed young women and men in six wilayas of Algeria, as well as data from interviews with employers from around the country, this research complements the Youth Employment Project’s biannual large-scale employment tracer studies, which gather data on the employment status of thousands of young project beneficiaries twice per year. The indepth view offered by this qualitative research suggests that Algerian youth most need to develop 12 specific soft skills and 6 core functional job search skills in order to gain access to employment, or create their own through entrepreneurship.
